Cara & Greg's Vintage Affair

Submitted by: Cara Daniel (bride)
Wedding date: 09/06/2008
Wedding location: Illinois

The dress I imagined couldn't be found so my mom, grandmother and a seamstress helped me create it. I love how it turned out and it went with my birdcage veil and feather comb perfectly. The black part of the train is pleated and the black trim around the skirt are all pleats also.

The colors for the wedding were black and white with red, orange, and pink for a splash of color. Forget Me Not Floral made the gerber and black feather boquets.

This is the entrance to the Sunken Garden at Allerton Park in Monticello, Il. where we were married. Greg and I had a date here early in our relationship and that is when I knew I loved him.

My friend helped me make all of the programs. I bought metallic paper online and printed everything on my computer. I was able to get the damask design from a scrapbook site which I could then print on anything I wanted. My grandmother made centerpiece squares with similar fabric to tie it all together and the menus had the same design on them.

You are so beautiful! It is funny I had a black and white cake as well but w/out flowers. My hubby also did the black pin stripe suit but the best part is that you did not go too vintage. You modernized the old hollywood and adjusted it to your personality. Love the shoes! You put a nice sweet edge to the old glamour!

Amazing photos and I loved your theme. The programs are beautiful, I wish I'd thought of it. You did black and white with the added colors in a very classy way and I know that is very hard to do.

Black and white weddings are the best! But good for you for adding a pop of color, it's all very beautiful.

Your dress is so chic! The Sunken Garden is a beautiful location. You look like a great couple. I also really like your husband's pin-striped suit! (I'm a sucker for pinstripes :)) And thank you for your comments! I actually realized after the fact that the bridesmaids' dresses matched the front porch. LOL - we color-coordinated our house into our wedding! ;)

LOVe the black and white shots! Very romantic. Dress looks great!! Being a clothing designer, I love it when someone takes the initiative like you did to get exactly what you want! ( i did it the 1st time- this time I did it off the rack! BUT GOOD FOR YOU!) Bravo! You made the whole thing a success! Congrats to a gorgeous couple!

great photos. your photographer has a good eye

It isn't nearly as expensive to get a custom dress as you might think. We actually remade a sample dress which luckily fit. A completely new top was added and the pleats. $500 total. I did make the pleated parts myself though so that was a lot of work. But if you can't find the dress you love at the store, you can definately have it made.

That dress is amazing!
