Wedding location: California
California Citrus State Historical Park was the setting for our ceremony and reception because Kayla had always dreamed she would walk down an isle of trees in bloom and Mike grew up surrounded by the California citrus industry, which is preserved within this park.

Our officiant made our hands the theme of the ceremony. "These are the hands that will hold you when times are tough, these are the hands that will passionately love you, these are the hands that will wipe away your tears." He encouraged us to return to these words each year on our anniversary and take that day to appreciate each other starting with our hands.

The park served as our church, "for wherever love is, there is God, for God is love."

During the "first dance" we stared into each other's eyes with great joy and disbelief that we found each other in this wide world and had the good sense to "tie the knot." It was so amazing to be surrounded by all our friends and family. Never had I imagined a day so love-filled, it was a dream come true.

This photo shows Mike with his brothers and his dearest friends. They always "have his back." Especially on his wedding day, they helped out so much!

We didn't do a bouquet toss at the reception, but I think this counts. It reminded me of how graduates throw their hats after the ceremony. We were happy to be done with the serious part and we were ready to party!

When the moment came to cut the cake, our guests started chanting "Smash it, smash it, smash it!" We didn't smash it but we did get a little messy. It was so much fun!
